What cars use the ZF8HP70 transmission?

Originally designed and built in Germany by the famous ZF Friedrichshafen, the ZF8HP70 transmission was a revolutionary 8 speed automatic transmission when it debuted in 2008. Internal wizardry reduced shift times to a staggering 200 ms. It was also able to shift in a non-sequential manner, meaning it could go from 8th all the way to 2nd in the blink of an eye.

What Transmission Do I Have?

The first generation of the ZF8HP70 had a maximum torque capacity of 516 lb-ft and weighing a mere 192 pounds. Incidentally, the name stood for 8-speed transmission with Hydraulic converter and Planetary gearsets.

The 8HP transmissions initially supplied to Chrysler were built in Germany. But by 2013, Chrysler had secured a license to build the 8HP in the United States and marketed the new gearbox under the name Torqueflite 8.
