According to TSB 08-07-30-027, which you can read by clicking here, this problem affects the 2006 Chevy Suburban, 2007 Chevy Suburban & 2008 Chevy Suburban equipped with the 4L60E or 4L65 transmission. The Cause
This Chevy Suburban transmission problem can be traced to a failed sprag assembly, which is a common failure point for these gearboxs. The 4L60 sprag is actually a one-way clutch made from a series of figure 8 shaped metal pieces called sprags. The input sun gear fits inside of this round device and is able to move freely in one direction. But when torque is applied in the opposite direction, the sprags are supposed to stop the sun gear from moving. If the sprag clutch fails, the input sun gear will be able to move freely in either direction, preventing the transmission from engaging drive or third gear.
The Solution

The 4L60E sprag assembly is situated deep inside the gearbox, so a complete transmission rebuild will likely be recommended.
