Knowing the manual gate selection helps the ECU to set the engine timing, fuel delivery and a number of other performance related systems. If there is a high-voltage anomaly, a P2792 DTC will be set.
How Serious is the Code?
A P2792 diagnostic trouble code is related to a system that affects the drivability of your vehicle. The transmission problems associated with that can include erratic transmission shifts, failed gear engagement and poor vehicle performance.
Symptoms of a P2792 include:
- Abrupt shifts
- Erratic transmission behavior
- Delayed gear changes
- Failed gear engagement
- Poor performance
- Limp mode
- Damaged wiring and/or connectors
- Broken shifter assembly or components
- Failed/misadjusted transmission range sensor
How to Diagnose the Code?
Often times, a P2792 OBDII trouble code can be caused by damaged wiring, a failed transmission range sensor, and even a defective shifter mechanism. So all of those will need to be checked, along with the software version in the TCM (which may need to be updated). The transmission range sensor may also need to be adjusted.
What Repairs Will Fix P2792?
- Repair/replace damaged wiring or connectors
- Replace shifter assembly
- Adjust or replace transmission range sensor
