How Serious is the Code?

A P2776 diagnostic trouble code isn’t really going to affect vehicle performance, but manually upshifting the transmission using the manual shift gate or paddle shifters may not be possible.

Symptoms

Symptoms of a P2776 include:

  • Manual shifting capability disabled

Causes

  • Faulty upshift switch
  • Wiring issue
  • Shifter assembly failure
  • ECU programming issue

How to Diagnose the Code?

In order to diagnose a P2776 OBDII trouble code, a technician will need to check the condition of the wiring and connectors leading to the shifter assembly. Manufacturer TSB’s may help to shed some light on the issue. If no problems are found by this point, then the upshift switch will need to be tested, along with possibly the shifter assembly.
