P2758: Torque Converter Clutch Pressure Control Solenoid Ctrl Circuit Stuck On OBD-II Trouble Code

When a torque converter clutch is in the On position, it means that the transmission and engine are locked into 1:1 direct drive. If the torque converter clutch pressure control solenoid is stuck in the On position, the clutch will not release when it is commanded to. This will cause a number of transmission problems, along with a P2758 DTC.

How Serious is the Code?

If the torque converter is not able to release, it can cause the engine to stall when you’re coming to a stop or slowing down. Since this can affect the safety of your vehicle, a P2758 diagnostic trouble code is pretty serious.

Symptoms

Symptoms of a P2758 include:

  • Harsh, delayed or erratic shifts
  • Slipping in-and-out of gear
  • Engine stalls
  • Getting stuck in gear
  • Vehicle won’t move when in gear
  • Reduced fuel economy
  • Transmission overheats
  • Limp mode

Causes

  • Low transmission fluid
  • Dirty transmission fluid / filter
  • Frayed wiring / damaged connectors
  • Transmission fluid leak
  • Failed torque converter clutch pressure control solenoid
  • Failed torque converter clutch
  • Failed torque converter
  • Pressure blockage
  • Valve body issue
  • TCM or ECU failure

How to Diagnose the Code?

Since dirty transmission fluid can affect the operation of the TCC pressure control solenoid, the level and condition of the transmission fluid should be checked when trying to diagnose a P2758 OBDII trouble code. The wiring and connectors on the transmission wiring harness should also be checked. If everything looks good up to this point, then the torque converter pressure control solenoid will need to be tested directly.
