P2745: Intermediate Shaft Speed Sensor B Circuit OBD-II Trouble Code

The ECU decides when to command the gear change based on a number of sensor inputs, which includes data flowing from the intermediate shaft speed sensor labeled B. If there is an issue with the data coming from the ISS sensor, a P2745 DTC will be saved.

How Serious is the Code?

The P2745 diagnostic trouble code is bad, but not necessarily severe. You will experience a number of drivability problems, as it should be seen about as soon as possible.

Symptoms

Symptoms of a P2745 include:

  • Delayed, harsh or erratic shifts
  • Transmission not able to shift gears
  • Limp Mode
  • Speedometer failure
  • Engine misfire
  • Hesitation when accelerating
  • Engine stalling

Causes

  • Failed intermediate shaft speed sensor
  • Failed transmission input speed sensor
  • Failed transmission output speed sensor
  • Broken, loose or corroded connectors
  • Wiring damage or shorts
  • Valve body or pressure related issues
  • Failed solenoid
  • Failed engine temperature sensor

How to Diagnose the Code?

Believe it or not, dirty or low transmission fluid can actually prevent the ISS sensor from reading an accurate speed. The wiring and connectors on the transmission wiring harness should also be checked for signs of damage. If no problems have been found, then the intermediate shaft speed sensor/ISS sensor will need to be tested. The output shaft speed sensor and engine temperature sensor may also need to be tested as well.
