The P2701 diagnostic trouble code is used to indicate one of two transmission problems. Either A.) The apply time for the overdrive clutch is not within the specifications programmed into the TCM/ECU. Or B.) The overdrive clutch has failed in the on or off position.
How Serious is the Code?
A P2701 DTC means the overdrive function on your transmission is not working properly, which means that vehicle performance and fuel economy will suffer. Erratic shifting and engine stalling may also occur.
Symptoms of a P2701 include:
- Failure to shift into overdrive
- Failure to change out of overdrive
- Engine stalling
- Erratic shifting
- Damaged wiring or connectors
- Faulty overdrive clutch solenoid
How to Diagnose the Code?
When trying to diagnose a P2701 DTC, it’s important to look for signs of damage and corrosion in the wiring and connectors on the transmission wiring harness. If no damage is found, then the overdrive clutch solenoid can be tested using the appropriate scan tool.
What Repairs Will Fix P2701?
- Repair damaged wiring or connectors
- Install new overdrive clutch solenoid
