P1835: Kick-Down Switch Circuit OBD-II Trouble Code

When you are traveling at a constant speed and need a burst of acceleration, the transmission has to downshift in order to maximize the amount of engine power available. On many vehicles, this is accomplished by using an electric switch connected to the throttle pedal assembly. When you press the gas pedal all the way to the floor, this kickdown switch activates the downshift solenoid inside the transmission, which then makes the gear change happen. If a problem is detected with the kick down switch, a P1835 diagnostic trouble code will be stored.
