The Nissan turbine revolution speed sensor /TSS1/TSS2 tells the ECU how fast the turbine shaft inside of the transmission is spinning. This data helps the engine control unit determine which gear the transmission should be in. A P1716 OBDII code means that there is a problem with the Nissan TSS sensors.
How Serious is the Code?
Having a P1716 diagnostic trouble code is fairly serious, and could impact the performance of both the transmission and vehicle.
Symptoms of a P1716 include:
- Erratic shifting
- Unusually harsh shifts
- Fifth gear will not engage
- Damaged wiring or connectors
- Failed turbine revolution speed sensor
- Failed TCM
How to Diagnose the Code?
In order to diagnose a P1716 Nissan OBD2 trouble code, a technician will need to inspect the wiring and connectors from the sensor to the ECU. If no issues are found, then the TSS sensor itself will need to be tested. The TCM may also need to be checked.
What Repairs Will Fix P1716?
- Repair damaged wiring and connectors
- Replace turbine speed sensor(s)
- Replace TCM
