The auto shift manual control circuit/Autostick manual control circuit is comprised of sensors, wires and connectors that allow you to manually control your automatic transmission. A P0953 DTC means that there is an abnormally high-voltage signal somewhere within this circuit.
How Serious is the Code?
The P0953 diagnostic trouble code does not mean that you will be stranded on the side of the road. It does mean you however, you won’t be able to manually control the gear changes.
Symptoms of a P0953 include:
- Manual shifting function is disabled
- Damaged connectors and/or wiring
- Transmission shift switch failure
How to Diagnose the Code?
The process for determining the cause of a P0953 OBDII trouble code generally begins with examination of the shifter assembly. Water damage to the auto stick switch and connectors are a common cause. The wiring should also be checked for damage like frayed or broken wires.
