What Transmission Do I Have?
Whenever you have your transmission worked on, or you install a new car battery. The ECU must complete a process called adaptive learn, where the computer and transmission basically sync together. If this process was not completed for some reason, a P0949 DTC will be saved.

The P0949 diagnostic trouble code is not extremely serious, however the drivability issues associated with it can be extremely annoying.

How to Diagnose the Code?
If your vehicle has a P0949 OBDII trouble code, a technician will have to connect diagnostic computer to the vehicle’s OBD2 port, then place the ECU back into adaptive learn mode.
