When you shift your vehicle into reverse, signals travel back and forth to the ECU from the reverse input switch. If there is an irregularity in the voltage signal on that circuit, a P0813 DTC will be set.
How Serious is the Code?
A P0813 diagnostic trouble code isn’t “the end of the world”. But it does indicate that there is an electrical problem on the reverse output circuit that controls your reverse lights. And that can seriously impact the safety of your vehicle.
Symptoms of a P0813 include:
- Reverse lights don’t work
- Damaged wiring and/or connectors
- Failed reverse input switch
How to Diagnose the Code?
When diagnosing a P0813 OBDII trouble code, the wiring and connectors on the circuit will have to be carefully examined for signs of shorts, frayed wires and other damage. Connectors will need to be examined for signs of corrosion and broken pins. Reverse input switch will also need to be tested, along with the appropriate fuses and bulbs.
What Repairs Will Fix P0813?
- Repair/replace damaged wiring and/or connectors
- Replace reverse input switch
