JF017E Valve Body Problems / RE0F10E Valve Body Problems & Solutions

A continuously variable transmission/CVT, is designed to provide the best balloon and of performance and economy by ditching the traditional geared automatic transmission set up. Instead, the JF017E transmission / RE0F10E transmission (also known as the Jatco CVT8 or Nissan Xtronic CVT) uses a band that is stretched between two pulleys, which can adjust themselves to create the optimal gear ratio depending on the throttle position and engine speed. JF017E valve body problems / RE0F10E valve body problems can happen however. So let’s take a look at the most common Nissan CVT valve body problems, and figure out what you can do about them.

Model
Nissan Pathfinder

TSB NTB15-015e – CVT Judder

2013-2016 Nissan Pathfinder — 2013-2016 Nissan Altima — 2015-2016 Nissan Quest — 2015-2016 Nissan Murano — 2016 Nissan Maxima

Problem – Drivers may experience a number drivability problems like shaking/shuddering, bumping or vibrating. A P17F1 DTC will also be present.

Solution – In order to correct these JF017E problems, the valve body will need to be replaced.

Delayed engagement and/or push belt slipping

Problem – One common JF017E / RE0F10E valve body problem happens because the main pressure regulator bore becomes damaged and allows a reduction in hydraulic pressure. This can cause this Nissan xTronic CVT to have serious drivability issues.

Solution – Sometimes, resurfacing the main pressure regulator bore and installing a new pressure regulator valve will work. However the most reliable way may be to install a remanufactured JF016E / RE0F10D valve body.

Shuddering or complete failure of the torque converter

Problem – Typically torque converter clutch / TCC diagnostic trouble codes will accompany this JF017E / RE0F10E valve body problem, which is caused by a loss of hydraulic control by the lockup control valve.

Solution – To cure these Nissan CVT problems, the TC switch/regulator bore will need to be repaired and a new lockup control valve installed. Should the damage be too severe, a remanufactured JF016E valve body will be needed.

Slipping and/or a chattering sound on acceleration

Problem – This JF016E / RE0F10D valve body problem is usually the result of a pressure leak in the primary pulley reduction valve circuit, caused by excessive wear to the primary reduction valve reduction valve bore and/or the valve components.

What Transmission Do I Have?

Solution – To fix your Jatco/Nissan CVT8 transmission, the bore will need to be resurfaced, and a new valve installed. But the best option would be to install a new remanufactured JF016E / RE0F10D valve body.
