Chevy Trailblazer Technical Service Bulletins (TSB)

TSB PIP4051C – Harsh Shifting – Chevrolet Trailblazer 4L60E
Problem – Unusually harsh gear changes, combined with a P0717 DTC for an input shaft speed sensor error, are often caused by damage to the ISS sensor wiring.
Solution – If wire damage is found (usually to the white wire), the wiring and sensor will have to be replaced. The pump cover should also be examined for sharp points/edges that could damage the wiring. If any are found, they should be smoothed with a file.

Problem – Vehicles equipped with the 4L60E and 4L65E transmission may become stuck in third gear, the instrument cluster may not function, and the following DTC’s may be set: P0740, P0753, P0758, P0785 and P1860.
Solution – The most likely cause of this transmission problem is a blown fuse or an open on circuit 1020 between the fuse panel and the transmission. If no battery voltage is found at the fuse, the ignition switch will need to be replaced

Problem – It is possible to experience no movement when the transmission is shifted into Drive or the 3rd gear position. It is possible to experience normal operation when the transmission shifted into second, first or reverse.
Solution – Replace the forward sprag assembly

TSB 00-07-30-022D – No reverse, second or fourth gears – 4L60E Transmission & 4L65E Transmission
1993 – 2005 GM passenger cars and light duty trucks
Problem – Drivers may experience the loss of reverse, second and fourth gears. First and third gears will seem to function normally
Solution – The reaction sun gear may fail inside of the sun shell. It will need to be replaced with a stronger heat-treated 4L60E / 4L65 sun gear.

TSB 08-07-30-008B – Diagnostic information for P0894 and P1870 DTC – 4L60E Transmission | 4L65 Transmission | 4L70E Transmission
2003-2007 GM Passenger Cars and Light Duty Trucks – 2003-2007 HUMMER H2 – 2006-2007 HUMMER H3 – 2005-2007 Saab 9-7X – with 4L60-E, 4L65-E or 4L70-E Automatic Transmission (RPOs M30, M32 or M70)
Problem – This relates to drivers who experience unusually harsh 1-2 shifts, along with a P0804 and/or a P1870 DTC.
Solution – It is possible that a leaking TCC solenoid, a torque converter clutch valve or damaged turbine shaft O-ring seal could cause these two diagnostic trouble codes. However, it could also be caused by a failed torque converter

PIP5071 – Squawking noise on the 2-3 shift – Chevrolet Trailblazer 4L60E
Problem – An unusual squawking or groaning noise may be heard on the upshift from 2nd to 3rd gear.
Solution – The 3-4 friction and steel plates, clutch plate, apply plate, and selective backing plates will have to be replaced.

Intermittent harsh shifting -Chevrolet Trailblazer 4L60E
Problem – A common Chevrolet Trailblazer 4L60E transmission problem is an intermittent hard 1-2 shift, often accompanied by engine bogging. This condition can be caused by the torque convertor clutch applying during the shift.
Solution – To remedy the problem, the wiring harness needs to be inspected from the transmission case connector to the rear of the engine on the driver side. It’s possible that the wires for the TCC solenoid and pressure control solenoid have become frayed on a body seam. If this is the case, the wiring will need to be repaired, and the harness repositioned.

A less risky option would be to get a rebuilt 4L60E transmission from either your mechanic, or a local transmission repair shop. These typically have a lot of new transmission parts, like seals and clutches. And they usually come with some sort of warranty. But many mechanics won’t know how to modify the transmission, so it won’t have the same inherent problems that stem from the factory design flaws. Plus, the warranty you get might only be good at that one shop, leaving you without warranty coverage if you travel.

Works in 1st, 2nd, reverse, park, neutral. Will work in drive but loses power transfer when it shifts to 3rd. Don’t know about 4th or overdrive as I can’t get it up to that speed without 3rd.

I have an intermittent shudder in overdrive while driving 45-50 mph. A 2wd 2004 Trailblazer with 176,000 miles. Transmission has never lost fluid and never been serviced. My bad!

All of a sudden the RPM going 45 mph were up to 5. Now after driving to see what I can figure out it doesn’t want to shift in 3rd to easy and after it has shifted all the way the rpm are no less than 4-5. Sometimes it’s hard to shift to 3 and so forth going to 1st and 2nd seem ok.

The trans is slow to move especially when the trans is cold. Doesn’t want to move. If I leave it in neutral while warming up it shifts better

I had a remanufactured transmission put in 2002 Chevy trailblazer 4 wheel drive lzt model a month ago a week ago I was stopped at a stoplight started to go it downshifted fine on the second downshift it’s like it was in neutral and rpms went really high babyed it 1 mile home and parked it. Checked fluids it’s fine what would cause this and what do I do?

I put all new shift solenoids and the harness that’s inside the tranny and it still slips in every gear sometimes when u first start it up it shifts into 1st good and takes off great but once it shifts into 2nd it just slips and just revs it was doing this before I replaced all the solenoids to and my wife read somewhere that if you unhook the battery terminals and put the terminals together for a couple min then while still holding them together after a few min flip your headlight switch on to make sure you have no power left on it resets the ecu and it actually worked after that for like 4 months and now even after the new solenoids it’s slipping in every gear

2002 trailblazer, 4l60e trans.Slips halfway through first gear, takes too long to shift, Every now and then the whole car violently shakes or kills it’s self after making a complete stop in reverse.

Transmission don’t go at all in any hear but the transmission fluid level is good and fluid is clean and dose not smell burnt at all really clean fluid for it not to work. Has no dtc stored. And when using bidirectional controls to shift gears when attempting to shift to any gear the system boots me and gives me a message saying gears must be shifted in sequential order.

My 2006 Chevy trailblazer LS RWD with the 4.2 V6 will shift through P,R,N,1,2, and 3. But won’t shift into Drive like its supposed to. The only time I can get it to shift into Drive is when I go through 1,2, and 3rd gear manually while driving and still had to rev it really high just to engage but as soon as I come to a stop it won’t move in Drive again I have to do the whole process over again. I put a computer on it and got a code for the Shift Solenoid B Electrical. So I replaced both Shift solenoids and the transmission filter and still won’t shift into Drive correctly. I’m not getting any other codes other then a evaporative system fault code. The trans was just rebuilt about 35,000 miles ago when the new motor was installed. There also wasn’t any metal shavings or anything like that when I dropped the transmission pan and the trans looked alright to me. So if you have any ideas of what it could possibly be please let me know.

I’ve found that I have to reset the computer after doing any work like that to make it recognize the issue had been fixed. The computer still believes there is a problem so it could be in limp mode

My transmission won’t go into 4th gear and from a stop it won’t go unless i put it in 2nd or 1st gear manually but once it gets going i can slap it in 3rd gear if i put it in drive it just stays in 3rd gear when i slow down 10 mph it acts like its in neutral and got to put it in 1st or 2nd again to get enough speed to put in 3rd again.
