Technical service bulletins are written by car companies so that the dealers will know how to deal with common problems that they may run across. In this one, affected vehicles may have a bunch of DTC’s, along with one or more of the following transmission problems:
Slipping and/or a harsh 1 – 2 shift
Vehicle will not move while in gear
Engine stalling
Torque converter clutch issues
Limp mode
Chrysler’s official recommendation was to change the entire solenoid/pressure switch assembly, along with the 10 way wiring harness. The repair however, could only be performed if moisture and/or corrosion were found around the wiring harness connectors.
If no wiring harness damage was found, other possibilities for the problems included a failed transmission pump, valve body, main wiring harness, ECU or TCM.
What Transmission Do I Have?

In this age of uncertainty, we’re seeing rising used vehicle costs, interest rates and cost-of-living. For this reason, it really would make sense to try to keep your vehicle on the road for as long as possible. So instead of chasing one transmission problem after another, you might want to consider investing in a remanufactured 42RLE transmission from a company like Street Smart Transmission. These guys completely reengineer each transmission so that all the problems that we discussed, will be taken care of. They also modify and upgrade many areas of the transmission to improve the performance and reliability. Each reman transmission is then dyno tested before it leaves the factory, to ensure that it is going to perform properly, right out of the box.
