    I am posting this here for Mark who submitted it through the contact form.

    I have a 2007 Mazda 6i automatic and there is a tsb out for these with what is called a shiftlock, where from 3rd to 4th gear you hear and feel a “clunk”. It goes into gear fine but it is an annoyance. I checked the tsb and my VIN did not fall under this, but is the same exact problem. (Seems to happen more often when car is warmed up) I just took it to Mazda to have the PCM and TCM software updated. They did updates on the PCM and said the TCM was already up to date. Unfortunately this did NOT fix my issue. I had the fluid changed and this did NOT fix the issue. I got a quote from a third party transmission guy (good guy) of $2400-$2600. He said there is a leak (known issue with these ford 4F27E transmissions) near the servo. Is this a good price for a rebuild or do you think it still could be electrical?

    Hi Admin,
    Marks’ transmission guy is right-this transmission has several known issues that range from worn or degraded servo pistons, to defective valve bodies, to fluid passages that get bunged up with sealant during assembly. Since all the software checked out OK, the problem it is unlikely to be electrical. Depending on the actual cause, most mechanical issues also have known remedies which are usually more cost effective than a complete rebuild or replacement.
