I am posting this for commenter Travis.

I have a 98 Kia Sportage, I bought it used. I am having problems when I turn the car on, it accelerates on its own even before I let go of the brake, then sometimes no matter how hard i push on the gas it wont accelerate. Then finally when I am driving it feels like it keeps I don’t know. It accelerates for a minute then decelerates, back and forth. I am worried, I don’t have the money for trans repairs! any advice

From the information given, I highly doubt that your transmission is the cause of the problem. The symptoms are most likely being caused by an issue with a sensor or actuator such as the idle air control (IAC) actuator, oxygen sensor or egr valve. Is your check engine light on? Whether it is or isn’t you should bring your car in to have a diagnostic test run to see what your car’s computer thinks the problem is. This procedure is quite inexpensive, don’t worry.
