Nissan Rogue CVT Warranty Extension

To provide its customers with additional assurance regarding their overall cost of ownership, Nissan doubled the warranty period for the CVT transmission in the 2008-2010 Nissan Rogue. The existing powertrain warranty coverage of 5 years/60,000 miles was extended at no cost, for CVT repairs, replacements or related towing, up to 10 years/120,000 miles (whichever comes first).

This extension required no action on the customer’s part. The remainder of the powertrain warranty coverage for components other than the transmission remains unchanged, at 5 years/60,000 miles, and the basic warranty coverage also remains unchanged. No transmission-related recalls.

Nissan Rogue Technical Service Bulletins (TSB)

2015 Rogue – TSB PC346
Problem – Nissan is voluntarily replacing torque converters in certain 2015 Rogue’s.
Solution – For more information, contact Nissan at 1-800-647-7261. Refer to campaign id; PC346

TSB NTB13-079d – Reduced performance due to CVT fluid temperature protection logic – RE0F10A CVT transmission

*Note: These RE0F10A transmission problems apply to several vehicles. The TSB relating to that vehicle will be listed next to its name.

2007 – 2012 Nissan Altima 4cyl – TSB NTB13-079d
2007 – 2012 Nissan Sentra – TSB NTB13-095c
2008 – 2013 Nissan Rogue – TSB NTB14-002d
2014 – 2015 Nissan Rogue Select – TSB NTB12-057c

Problem – The reduced performance is due to the CVT fail-safe mode, which will reduce the vehicle speed to protect the transmission from further damage. This will happen after high RPM (4000+) and/or high-speed driving (65 mph/104.6 km/h) for 1-1.5 hours or more.

Solution – If the technician determines that the transmission has not been overfilled/the correct transmission fluid is used, and the coolant concentration is not greater than 50%, they will use the vehicle’s onboard diagnostic system to determine if the conditions were present to damage the transmission. If the conditions were moderate, the RE0F10A valve body will need to be replaced, and an external CVT fluid cooler installed. If the conditions were more severe, then the transmission itself will need to be replaced.

TSB NTB09-148A – Valve body failure
2007-2008 Altima – 2007-2008 Rogue – 2007-2008 Sentra
Problem – Cars equipped with the CVT transmission may have the following trouble codes stored in the TCM: P0840. P0845, P0744, P1777
Solution – The Control Valve Assembly will have to be replaced.

Common Nissan Rogue Transmission Problems

Vehicle will not move forward when the shifter is placed in the Drive position – RE0F10A CVT transmission
Problem – After placing the vehicle in Drive, it may refuse to move as if the transmission is slipping or cannot engage forward gear.
Solution – The problem could be as simple as low CVT fluid or a failed speed sensor. However it can also be failed transmission pump or forward clutch.

Can I drive with a transmission problem?

If your Nissan Rogue can still make it up and down the road, you might say “It’s fine, I’ll just drive it until I can get it fixed”. But that is not always a good idea, depending on the symptoms. You see, there are a lot of (very expensive) moving parts inside of a transmission, and if something isn’t right, continuing to drive with a transmission problem could damage something else.

How often does a Nissan Rogue transmission need to be replaced?

The overall lifespan of a Nissan Rogue transmission largely depends on how well it was maintained. Factory design flaws also factor into this equation (including the radiator issue that plagued the Nissan RE5R05A in the Pathfinder, Armada, Titan, Frontier and Xterra), along with how/how hard you drive. But on average, we’ve seen the Nissan Rogue transmissions last for between 130,000-180,000 miles. A high quality replacement transmission however, can last considerably longer if all of the factory design flaws have been addressed and the vehicle has been maintained.

How are Nissan Rogue transmission issues diagnosed?

It is fairly easy to guesstimate what the root cause of your Nissan Rogue transmission problems might be, but you won’t truly know unless you have the right tools and experience. A good mechanic or transmission repair center will be able to connect your truck to a computer and find out which diagnostic trouble codes (DTC’s) have been stored. Once they know what to look for, they can perform a visual inspection to verify the problem.

How is a Nissan Rogue transmission replaced?

In order to replace your Nissan Rogue transmission, the truck has to be lifted from the ground in order to gain access to all of the parts that will need to be unbolted. Then the transmission can be lowered to the ground (typically with a transmission jack), so the new transmission can be installed.

How to Solve Nissan Rogue Transmission Problems

Solution A: Buy a Used Nissan Rogue Transmission

The quickest way to fix your transmission problems is to simply buy a used transmission or used transmission. These can be found at most junk yards, and they often come with a 30-90 day warranty. However, there’s no way to determine the actual condition of the internal components, so you could be spending a bunch of money to have the exact same problems. Plus, that warranty only covers the transmission if it’s defective, not the labor costs that you’ll have to pay.

Solution B: Buy a Rebuilt Nissan Rogue Transmission

Another option would be a rebuilt transmission or rebuilt transmission. A local repair shop will remove your transmission, then install a bunch of new parts during the rebuild. The problem here is, the skills and experience of each transmission rebuilder will vary widely from shop to shop, so you could have problems from something that wasn’t adjusted properly. And the 1-2 year warranty might only cover you at certain transmission repair shops, in a specific geographical area.

Solution C: Buy a Remanufactured Nissan Rogue Transmission

What Transmission Do I Have?

Many owners depend on their vehicle to commute and get things done. Their gasoline engines are designed to go 100’s of thousands of miles, so it makes sense to invest in a remanufactured transmission.

I rented a 2023 Rogue on Wednesday. On Friday I had some stuttering, not getting out of gear easily; had driven an hour on highway earlier in day, but problems cropped up after an hour in a parking lot. On the cusp of hurricane warning (in LA) can’t get in touch with any rental counter to find another SUV (moving DD to new apartment cross-country, picking up bunch of furniture). Worried that good thoughts may not be enough.

After driving vehicle for several minutes it stops going into overdrive or downshifting when stopping, if you turn ignition off and restart the vehicle it will most of the time correct itself untill several minutes of driving again.

2012 rouge code 1778. Stepper motor
It goes for few hundred feet then goes to limp mode. Shut it off and restart it and goes again. Is it stepper motor problem or valve body. Or transmission.

We have a 2013 Nissan Rogue which at the time of this all starting, had 135,000 miles. After having the transmission shutdown on the highway in the hills of Virginia, we discovered what everyone else has. This year and model has major CVT issues. In 2020, the transmission went completely while on my way to have leg surgery. It took 5 months to get a Nissan rebuilt transmission. That was 5 months of car payments wasted. At 190,000 now, we need another one. Same exact issue. Happened again on the way to our daughter’s college visit. And we’re just outside of the warranty on it with 6 more months of payments. It whines at high RPMs while going sown steep hills, no matter the speed. It’s been a nightmare and our greatest financial struggle for the past 2 years. I won’t ever own a Nissan again. If it’s a Nisaan and has a CVT, I’m going to need an outstanding warranty.

Transmission failed at 94000 miles. This was a 2013 Nissan Rogue. I paid cash for this junk. Nissan refused to cover cost of repair. I had to pay 5,000 for a new transmission. I will never buy another Nissan, just junk and they know it.

Hi I have a 2013 Nissan Rogue it has 103,000 miles and after driving more than 30 miles or more the vehicle slows down and will not excellerate. So we were on a highway with our young grandchildren with us and the vehicle wasn’t excellerating and just was creeping other vehicles speeding. We were so scared that we would cause a deadly accident. Some one or All of us could’ve been killed or seriously hurt. We luckily were able to pull off to the side and waited awhile, so I decided to look up on google to see if I seen any reviews on what could be the problem, and it was when I seen several complaints and people saying that they would let the vehicle sit for awhile and then start again. So it seems as though these vehicles have timers on them because if you can only drive for so many miles and this happens, It’s Just NOT NORMAL. Why make a vehicle that doesn’t PERFORM the way it should? VERY CONCERNED. We Paid Hard Earned Money and the Vehile Wasn’t CHEAP. Should REPLACE TRANSMISSION with one that’s going to PERFORM.

Acceleration and shift are normal, after normal take off I take foot off the pedal and the transmission will start to slow down the car rapidly, like as though I were manually breaking down the gears (e.g) 6,5,4,3,21, with a rev noise . Plus,RPMS diminish

Have a 2016 Nissan Rogue with 144.000 km had problems with transmission a few weeks ago had it fixed cost me 4 thousand dollars. After 2 weeks driving the problem got back went back to mechanic who checked with the computer it said was a faulty switch he took of the code and told me to drive it over the weekend and if the problem persists to go back and he will work on it again. But now I’m afraid of towing a popup trailer that I just bought to go camping in the summer.

I read your review on the Nissan Rogue (I own a 2013) and I’m have many of the same things in my car. Whining sounds and poor acceleration, leaking transmission fluid then finally the vehicle would not move forward and drive. After turning off the vehicle, I could start it and then it would go into drive but not very long and it would disengage. I went under the car and had someone go through the gears to find the leak. It’s coming out of the right side of the trans case where the shaft connects. Could this be a seal or o-ring ?

My 2016 Nissan Rogue was jittering after stopping, stops or slowing down. I took it 3 Times to get it checked at a Nissan dealer. I’ve always taken my vehicle to get serviced at the Nissan dealer. They would say nothing was wrong with vehicle and recommended different service, which I did do them. Final judder complaint they said it was the transmission and I was out of warranty at only 90K miles. Nissan manufacturing took care of the transmission at a goodwill case. One week later my car started smelling funny we ended noticing oil leaking from vehicle it had spotted all my new driveway/concrete! They said it was the case transfer and would cost me over $3k this is hectic, stressful and very frustrating!
