I took my jeep to AAMCO because it was in “limp mode”. Limp mode is when the computer detects something is wrong and prevents going into 3rd gear – it stays in second gear so you can “limp” home or to a repair shop.
AAMCO did some diagnostics and determined that my transmission needed rebuilding at a cost of $2400 to $2800. I didn’t get a good feeling about what he was saying (seemed high pressure to commit) so I took the jeep somewhere else, to Cottman Transmission.
They said the transmission was fine, the problem was the computer. I did some research online about the error codes I was getting confirmed their diagnosis. They replaced the computer and now the jeep runs fine.
