ok so my truck is a 97 gmc sierra 4×4 its automatic and when I drive it it keeps revving up even when im in first gear. it acts like its about to take off like im flooring it but im barely touching the pedal. its been like this for awhile. I was going too buy a new transmission but don’t want too spend the money if that’s not what it is. do you know what it possibly could be? help please.

It sounds like, at the very least, the clutches and bands and, quite possibly, the gearing is shot. It is also possible that the torque converter is on the way out. So with potentially four major parts of your pickup’s tranny failing, it doesn’t make much sense to wait any longer. Your truck’s performance — revving and very poor performance — is the classic call of a transmission with slipping gears and major problems.
Since you have already readied yourself for the replacement, go ahead and do it now so that the pain will hit quickly (it’s like pulling off a bandaid quickly to keep the pain down; a slow removal is not nice, it’s downright torture). You are looking at an investment of about $3,000 for the job.
